Habitat for Humanity Vail Valley is seeking a motivated, hardworking, outgoing, and handy individual to serve as Construction Crew Leader in support of its mission to partner with local families to build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.
The Construction Crew Leader is responsible for leading and working alongside volunteers in the construction of Habitat for Humanity homes. The Construction Crew leader engages in hands on construction, leadership of team and volunteer groups, documentation of construction progress, execution of safety tasks and policies, organization and management of jobsite, tools and materials. The position demands a strong work ethic, an ability to work in all sorts of weather conditions, a willingness to lead and work with others, and an aptitude for hands-on construction tasks.
Job Duties
Assist in leading the construction volunteer program, including preparation of group build days, volunteer orientation and training, task assignment/delegation and oversight of work, and when relevant, development of volunteer crew leaders.
Maintain a culture within the construction team where future homeowners and volunteers are trusted and empowered to build habitat homes, through effective job site training, adequate supervision, and clear communication of daily objectives and tasks.
Make every effort to prioritize a positive volunteer experience and engage volunteers in the overall mission by utilizing training to invest in and improve the skills of volunteers over time.
Be responsible for maintaining a daily log of construction progress using Procore; including progress photos, daily deliveries, site visitors and inspections. Assist with maintenance of detailed project schedules, making changes weekly to reflect actual progress.
Maintain tool/equipment inventory and adhere to procedures for care and maintenance. Tag out any inoperable or dangerous tools and remove them from use. Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and secure job site.
Complete detailed or technical construction tasks, including but not limited to complicated framing, floor systems, truss assemblies, stair installation, roof sheathing, cabinet and countertop installation, doors and trim carpentry/installation and conducting framing layouts.
Complete all other aspects of construction and finish work such as landscaping, building fences, drywall repair, and any other miscellaneous work that needs to be completed.
Assist Director of Construction and Superintendent in reviewing construction for accuracy as compared to plans.
Occasionally work at heights of up to 20 feet.
Lead morning safety huddles, track safety training sign-in sheets/maintain binder, and report injuries and severe safety violations to Director of Construction.
Qualifications
Strong interpersonal communication skills and demonstrated ability to work within a team environment.
Ability to multitask and quickly adapt in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated coaching and/or leadership experience.
Prior volunteer experience preferred.
General knowledge of and experience in all phases of residential construction and previous hands-on experience in residential framing preferred.
Ability to read and interpret all construction documents, including architectural and engineering drawings, site plans, and technical specifications preferred.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook preferred.
Intermediate to advanced English speaking with beginner to intermediate English reading and writing skills required.
Conversational Spanish speaking ability preferred.
Valid driver’s license and ability to occasionally drive company vehicle.
Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for this position is currently $26.44 - $33.05 per hour. This position is paid on an hourly basis, and overtime is paid at 1½ the hourly rate. Initial compensation is determined based on the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience. Benefits offered include health insurance, 403(b) retirement plan with 6% employer match, flexible spending account for health and dependent care, and 5 weeks of vacation, holiday and sick time.
